Background
Spiro Theodore Agnew (1918–1996) was Maryland's 55th Governor 1967-1969 + the 39th Vice President of the United States 1969-1973 under Nixon. Resigned VP October 10, 1973 amid federal extortion + tax-evasion charges from his Baltimore County Executive + MD Gov tenure. Pleaded no contest to one count of tax evasion; sentenced to 3 years probation + $10K fine. The Beall investigation (USAtty George Beall, ED-MD) is widely considered one of the most important federal-corruption cases of the 20th century. Disbarred in MD 1974.
