Background
Evan Mecham (1924–2008) was Arizona Governor January 1987-April 1988. Impeached + removed by AZ Senate April 4 1988 over fund-misuse allegations (loaning campaign-protocol fund money to his Pontiac dealership). The first U.S. Gov impeached + removed since Henry Horton (TN) in 1929. Earlier as Gov, rescinded the MLK Day state holiday — sparking national boycott of AZ + delaying 1993 NFL Super Bowl XXVII (eventually held in Pasadena CA instead of Tempe AZ).
