Peter Barton Wilson (b. 1933) was Mayor of San Diego 1971-1983 + U.S. Senator 1983-1991 + CA Governor 1991-1999. Promoted Prop 187 (1994) barring undocumented immigrants from non-emergency state services; passed but mostly struck down. Briefly ran for the 1996 GOP presidential nomination. Signed the Brady Bill but vetoed CA's first attempt at same-sex domestic-partner registry. Suffered the Northridge earthquake (1994) + Rampart scandal era.
