Background
Edmund Gerald "Jerry" Brown Jr. (b. 1938) is the only Californian to serve as Governor across two non-consecutive era pairs: 1975-1983 (34th Gov) + 2011-2019 (39th Gov). Previously CA SoS 1971-75; CA AG 2007-11; Mayor of Oakland 1999-2007. Ran for President three times (1976, 1980, 1992 — finished 2nd to Clinton). Son of Pat Brown (CA Gov 1959-67); sister Kathleen Brown ran for Gov 1994. Single his first 4 Gov terms; married Anne Gust 2005.
